  The government is preparing to announce a cashless treatment scheme for road accident victims soon.  In each case, a security cover of Rs 2.5 lakh will be provided.  This scheme will be very important for the citizens of the country as there are about 5 lakh road accidents in the country every year in which an estimated 1.5 lakh people die and about 3 lakh people become permanently disabled.  The highest number of deaths in the country is in vehicle accidents.

 For the Cashless Scheme for Road Accident Victims, a Motor Vehicle Accident Fund will be set up by the Ministry of Highways and Transport (MoRTH).  The information was given in a circular issued to the transport secretaries and commissioners of the states.  Our country has about 1% of the world's vehicles but the death rate due to road accidents is high.

 The letter further said that the National Highway Authority (NHA) will strengthen the IT platform used in the Living India Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana to benefit road accident patients in the first hour of the accident (Golden Hours).  More than one million people worldwide die in road accidents every year.  While many times, that is, 20 lakh to 50 lakh people are injured in road accidents.  The matter is serious in our country too.  In India too, there are five lakh road accidents every year in which about one and a half lakh people die.

 Personal accident cover of Rs 2.5 lakh will be provided

 All Indian and foreign nationals who are victims of road accidents will be considered as beneficiaries for this scheme.  The scheme will provide a personal accident cover of Rs 2.5 lakh.  According to ministry figures, 1,50,785 people were killed in road accidents in the country in 2016, including 15,746 pedestrians.  In 2017, 1,47,913 people were killed in road accidents, including 20,457 pedestrians.  In 2018, 1,51,417 people were killed in road accidents, including 22,656 pedestrians.  Similarly, an average of 19,620 pedestrians have lost their lives in road accidents in the last three years.

 People who are victims of road accidents will be given financial benefits in trauma and healthcare services through one account.  This account will be created by MoRTH for implementation of the scheme.  Stated in the letter.  An average of 19,620 pedestrians are killed in road accidents in the country every year.  This figure is about 12 percent of the total number of people killed in road accidents.
