The Aarogya Setu app has been in the news for some time now.  The source of this app tracing Covid-19 has now been revealed.  Experts have been asking questions about privacy for some time now.  There was also a demand to make the source code public.

The policy commission announced in a press conference that the source code of the app will be made public.  According to the policy commission, 100 million people downloaded the app in the 41 days since its launch.  Currently the source code of Arogya Setu app has been revealed.

The government will also soon release the source code for the iOS and KaiOS versions of the Health Bridge app.  The source code of the Health Bridge app has been made live on GitHub.  The government claims that for the first time in the world, the source code of a tracing app of such a large size has been revealed.

Notably, Singapore had long ago released the source code of its Trace to Gather app, although according to the Singaporean population, the app does not have as many users as India.

The National Informatics Center (NIC), which is the developer of the app, has announced a bug bounty for the app.  This means that anyone who finds a flaw in this application will be rewarded.

 What is the benefit?

After making the source code of this application public, now developers and hackers performing security tests will be able to better test this application.  The strengths and weaknesses of this application will come out, so that this application can be improved in terms of privacy.
