No fare for buses or trains from migrant laborers: Meals arranged by state governments, Supreme Court

In the midst of the corona epidemic in the country, migrant laborers are somehow facing difficulties.  The matter was heard in the Supreme Court on Thursday.  In which information about the current situation was given by the government.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta from the central government made the arguments.  So many questions were asked from the court regarding railway tickets and food facilities.  Regarding the submission to the court by the government, the Railways has run 3,700 trains from May 1 to May 27.  These trains have so far transported 91 lakh workers to their hometowns.

Labor trains will continue until the workers reach home

Trains are being sent from one state to another with the consent of both.

Why would a worker be sure that money is not being taken?

In the Supreme Court, Justice Kaul asked how he could clarify the matter that money was not being taken from the laborers.  And they don't have any problems.  The Solicitor General said that we will give a full answer on this matter.  For which we need some time.

Many workers covered a distance of more than 1000 km on foot and reached home.  Workers' special trains were run by the central government as workers took to the road amid a lockdown in the Corona epidemic.  From May 1, Labor Day, special labor trains have been running to deliver workers home.

The Supreme Court said no fare should be charged from migrant laborers traveling in trains and buses.  The governments of the states and union territories should bear the cost.

State governments should provide meals and water at stations and railways should make arrangements for laborers in trains.  They should also be given food and water in buses.

State governments should provide meals to stranded laborers across the country who are waiting for buses and trains to reach their homes.  Where the workers will get food and where the registration will take place.  It should be informed.

The state government should look into the process of registration of migrant workers and ensure that they get a train or bus for home travel as soon as possible.  All information related to this should be given to the people.

An important decision of the Supreme Court regarding the workers

The court has pronounced a major verdict against the problem of trapped laborers across the country.  The court said in its interim order that bus and train fares should not be taken from the laborers.  State governments will pay labor rent.  State governments speed up labor repatriation.
